“…90 percent of current war casualties are civilians, the majority of whom are women and children.”
“Women, who know the price of conflict so well, are also often better equipped …
to prevent or resolve it.” UN Secretary-General, Kofi
The mission of the Women and War Project (2001 to 2011) was to use visual storytelling to offer an international view of war from the perspective of the women who live it. Stephens’ photographs and stories of women in countries of conflict were presented over the course of nearly a decade in a host of venues including art galleries and museums and to audiences including educational, professional, civic, trade, corporate, journalistic and non-profit organizations to help provide support for women, and organizations helping women, in war-torn areas.
A heartfelt thank you to all of the women, organizations, volunteers and donors who helped to raise the more than $20,000 donated to organizations worldwide through this effort.
